Exhibition from May 16
„Miniature books in the Kiek in de Kök Artillery Tower“

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the Estonian language. As such, 2025 has been designated the Year of the Estonian Book, and the artillery tower is set to become a literary sanctuary once more.

This exhibition showcases miniature books – small-format publications no longer than 100 mm on any one side. The smallest Estonian-language books ever produced are displayed

alongside miniature books in seven other languages for a total of 60 tomes. The oldest miniature book in Estonian dates back to 1935, but the smallest of them all is a tiny 5 × 5 mm edition of the Lord’s Prayer in seven languages.

Most of the books on display have hardback covers, with bindings made from a variety of materials, including leather and parchment.

The miniature books are from the private collections of Indrek Oper and Aku Sorainen.
